What changed when we trained a digit classifier against its own attacks
On 450 held-out digits, PGD-trained accuracy at an L-infinity budget of 0.16 was 56.0%; ordinary training gave 1.8%. The test also shows where the defense stops.
We made most of a digit network binary. It did not get faster.
A one-bit hidden matrix retained 98.2% digit accuracy and suggested 73% less tensor storage, but the unoptimized PyTorch implementation was slower on CPU.
